Again

Posted on Apr 11th, 2008 by Orit : Untitled Orit
I'm going to be crossing the atlantic in a few hours for another funeral.

It's the third one I've been in 11 months.  Not that that means anything.

But this one hurts the most.

And you know how it's said that the first stage of grief is denial?

It's not denial.

It's disbelief, it's inconceivable, it just doesn't compute.

Resonance

Posted on Feb 9th, 2008 by Orit : Untitled Orit

On Separation:

We know separation so well because we've tasted the union.  The reed flute makes music because it has already experienced changing mud and rain and light into sugarcane.  Longing becomes more poignant if in the distance you can't tell whether your friend is going away or coming back.. The pushing away pulls you in.

Thank You

Posted on Jan 8th, 2008 by Orit : Untitled Orit
Today
is one of those days
that I am wide open to the world
to you

It's one of those days that I am
filled
at awe
that you trust me

moved to tears
at the privilege of your story

heartbroken
by your imperfection
your beautiful
humanity

hearbroken by this
gritty life

and I need to thank you
profusely
for your courage
your connection

all I have to offer
is a flow
a presence
with your presence

and when you receive
I am filled
I am here
...Thank You

Today's menu

Posted on Dec 29th, 2007 by Orit : Untitled Orit
It happened again!! Dinner was accompanied by bursts of happiness!

I'm not sure if it was the bright green of the beans, the cayenne surprises or the crunchiness of it all, but it just all clicked together beautifully.

So in case I stumbled on to something universal ;)...today's recipe for happiness, for you:
  • Olive oil
  • Tofu
  • Fresh green beans
  • Walnuts
  • Garlic
  • Cayenne pepper

(choose/modify quantity as you wish)

stir fried in a pan (tofu first if you want it tanned) just long enough for the walnuts to start toasting and the green beans to soften but still stay nice and crunchy.

when out of the pan, drizzle a few drops of sesame oil on top, and a little braggs seasoning and voila - happiness!!

(a picture would have been fitting, but, well, I thought of it when it was too late...)

Lost Love

Posted on Nov 18th, 2007 by Orit : Untitled Orit

I've been going through some computer files and found this piece I wrote, from May this year.  I liked it and wanted to share, with you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Love
There is the flow again
I watch it, quietly
So as to not get attached
Not separate from
The sensations
The subtle
Soft playful tingling
The deep
Responsiveness, longing opening
It’s like melting and joining the flow that is my home.
Everything is just fine.
Just fine.
The longing, the pain, the love.
The openness, the tentative openness.
I revel in this moment, aware of its shyness
Its vulnerability
Its contraction and flow
Contraction and flow
I watch it, quietly.
For You, Inside and Out
Posted on Oct 28th, 2007 by Orit : Untitled Orit
WEST WIND #2
You are young.  So you know everything.  You leap
into the boat and begin rowing.  But listen to me.
Without fanfare, without embarrassment, without
any doubt, I talk directly to your soul.  Listen to me.
Lift the oars from the water, let your arms rest, and
your heart, and heart's little intelligence, and listen to
me.  There is life without love.  It is not worth a bent
penny or a scuffed shoe.  It is not worth the body of a
dead dog nine days unburied.  When you hear, a mile
away and still out of sight, the churn of the water
as it begins to swirl and roil, fretting around the
sharp rocks - when you hear that unmistakable
pounding - when you feel the mist on your mouth
and sense ahead the embattlement, the long falls
plunging and steaming - then row, row for your life
toward it.
This is, by far, one of my favourite things about August.
Can't wait to Sunday morning!
I want to unfold
Posted on Jul 14th, 2007 by Orit : Untitled Orit
Today, I want to unfold.  Unfold the joy the pain the confusion the love, and open, spread it warmly through arm legs and back... and my face.  I want to unfold, let my lips unfold uncurl, my fingers and my eyes, eyes squinting love.  In the midst of it all, squinting love.  Unfolding to this beautiful moment sharp and heartbroken and just be here.  With you.
~~~~~~~

Unfold
I'm too alone in the world, yet not alone enough
to make each hour holy.
I'm too small in the world, yet not small enough
to be simply in your presence, like a thing--
just as it is.

I want to know my own will
and to move with it.
And I want, in the hushed moments
when the nameless draws near,
to be among the wise ones--
or alone.

I want to mirror your immensity.
I want never to be too weak or too old
to bear the heavy, lurching image of you.

I want to unfold.
Let no place in me hold itself closed,
for where I am closed, I am false.
I want to stay clear in your sight.

I would describe myself
like a landscape I've studied
at length, in detail;
like a word I'm coming to understand;
like a pitcher I pour from at mealtime;
like my mother's face;
like a ship that carried me
when the waters raged.
